In the world of first graders, blogging could be used in various creative ways. The first thing that comes to my mind is blogging between parents and me (the teacher). I strongly believe that communication is KEY to any relationship and extremely important between parents and the teacher. Parents want to know what is going on in their child’s life and also want to be involved! Creating a blog between parents and me would be great. It would be another way to communicate with parents and let them know what is going on inside our classroom (through pictures, videos, etc.). Allow for parents to talk about various things that are going on and a way to let them contribute any ideas of things they would like to see within the classroom.
Also another fun way to use a blog within the classroom would be to write to another class in a faraway location to see what goes on in their world of education. Other forms of technology could be used with this sort of project as well. Children are extremely fascinated with their peers and what is going on in their lives (is it the same as theirs or different). I believe it would be great to use a blog to communicate with them.
Blogging … yet just another piece of technology that can be used in the classroom and fun at the same time! J

I liked your ideas of using the blog to keep in communication with parents as well as get your students in touch with a classroom faraway! What a great idea. I think that would be fun and that your students would enjoy it. Would you have each student write to the other class or would you compile a post as a class?
ReplyDeleteThanks! When thinking about how I would use this inside my classroom ... my intial thoughts are to have the entire class put our thoughts together and I write to our "pen pals". Maybe as time went on I would allow the students to write their own letters.

I like your idea about blogging with another classroom. It would be fun to see what other classes are doing at the same time as your own class.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of blogging in the classroom. I do believe you have to set some parameters with your students and educate them on what is acceptable and what is not. Explain to them the difference between quality blogging and quantity.
ReplyDeleteBlogging is a great idea to improve parent communication Although, I think there are many things that would need to be considered before setting up the blog. This would include confidentiality and parent training and access to the internet.
