Personal Learning Networks

Personal Learning Networks
My initial thoughts on Personal Learning Networks were what does that really mean? Technology is something that I use in my daily life but only in a very limited range. I have been exposed to more tools throughout this semester than I would have ever imagined existed. At this point, I have been exposed to many now just need to decide how I would like to incorporate them into my teaching. I have really enjoyed playing around with blogs and learning how they work. I feel as if this would be something I could really benefit from with communication with the families of my students.  I also have enjoyed learning about Twitter (even though I told myself I would never get on it). Crazy to think all the technology I could use in my teaching and wonder what is going to become of it in years to come! J

Blogging Inside the Classroom

In the world of first graders, blogging could be used in various creative ways. The first thing that comes to my mind is blogging between parents and me (the teacher). I strongly believe that communication is KEY to any relationship and extremely important between parents and the teacher. Parents want to know what is going on in their child’s life and also want to be involved! Creating a blog between parents and me would be great. It would be another way to communicate with parents and let them know what is going on inside our classroom (through pictures, videos, etc.). Allow for parents to talk about various things that are going on and a way to let them contribute any ideas of things they would like to see within the classroom.
Also another fun way to use a blog within the classroom would be to write to another class in a faraway location to see what goes on in their world of education. Other forms of technology could be used with this sort of project as well. Children are extremely fascinated with their peers and what is going on in their lives (is it the same as theirs or different). I believe it would be great to use a blog to communicate with them.
Blogging … yet just another piece of technology that can be used in the classroom and fun at the same time! J

Creating a Blog

My initial thoughts about creating a blog were positive! The steps to creating it were easy to follow and I look forward to blogging again soon!
